Nature of the work

The principal and customary work of an employee in this class of employment consists in assisting handicapped students in participating in activities related to their schooling. He or she assists a student in moving from one location to another, ensures his or her well-being, hygiene and safety according to the instructions received in keeping with the individualized education plan.

Responsabilities

• Guide the student in their daily activities at school and ensure their safety.
• Support teaching staff by helping them communicate basic concepts related to cleanliness, dressing, drinking, and eating.
• Record observations regarding the student’s needs and behaviors and, if necessary, inform teaching staff, parents, and other designated individuals and provide input on the measures specified in the intervention plan.
• Supervise the student during recess, lunch, and free time. Help the student understand and follow school rules.
• If necessary, provide first aid and administer medication according to medical prescriptions and in accordance with the school’s policy and parents’ instructions.
• Wash and, if necessary, disinfect certain clothing, dishes, tables, orthotics, and equipment used for the student’s activities.
• Use a computer and the various software programs necessary to perform the job.
• Perform any other related duties, if needed.

Required qualifications

Hold a Diploma of Vocational Studies in Assistance in Health Care Facilities or a Secondary School Diploma or a diploma or an attestation of studies recognized as equivalent by the competent authority, and have one (1) year of pertinent experience in those areas requiring self-discipline, general concepts in psychology and human relations skills.

Salary and working conditions

• Salary between $ 24,47 and $ 26,10 per hour
• An isolation premium ($ 10 066 or $ 16 102)
